Making a Brownstone Accessible, Step by Step

Like many older couples, Anita and Norman Sussman found themselves contemplating two options, neither of them very appealing: radically modify their current home or look for a new one. Their solution was to create a new home for themselves on the ground floor of their brownstone in Park Slope, Brooklyn, and renovate the upper floors to attract a high-paying tenant. The kitchen and dining area, on the parlor floor, now has a new kitchen and modern fixtures like an ARQ branch chandelier and a custom-made table by Jon Besch.
