I don’t want to pay more than one month’s rent, but the broker/agency is asking for 15%. I was told it was negotiable since I would be moving in ASAP, but they are only reducing it by $300. All my paperwork has been approved, and I have already submitted 1 mo rent as a “good faith” deposit. During the closing meeting, how hard should I negotiate? Do I have anything to lose if I push too hard?
They already credited the good faith deposit towards the broker’s fee. Is it too extreme for me to refuse to provide any more towards the fee? After signing the lease and providing the security and first month’s rent as needed, can I just walk out the door?
